Our Top Five Restaurants in Nairobi
We love our food. We try out new places all the time, and remain loyal to those who serve up good tucker. Our list is entirely subjective, and subject to change. But for now – five places to tantalise your taste buds.
Talisman. The perennial Karen favourite that is hot on ambience with beautiful teak furnishings, and serves reliably good food. The cuisine is international, but includes Asian dishes, such as sushi or wok-cooked items. Largely outdoors. Tel: 0705 999 997
Cultiva. Highly original and newish place in Karen, managed by Ariel, an Ecuadorian chef. Even the most mundane of ingredients get a new twist here, whether it’s the gin & tonic, beans or a salad bowl. Outdoors. Dinner only. Tel: 0701 579 902
Open House. Go-to North Indian eatery with a Dhal Makhani that will have even the carnivores reaching for more. Nice indoor setting in Westlands but may not suit some in these new Covid times. The food travels well for those seeking a delivery option. New location inside Gallant Mall. Tel: 0726 726 345
La Salumeria. Classic Italian restaurant that has stood the test of time. Despite its unpromising location in the back of Valley Arcade, it has a local tavern-y feel and a very loyal crowd. The specials have remained much the same for years. Indoor and outdoor seating. Tel: 020 3875 226
Hob House. Stuck out behind ISK in Kitisuru, it’s a trek for some. But owner Kelly serves up un-traditional Lebanese fare – a particular favourite is the chicken cooked in yoghurt. Beautiful garden setting, but it’s Bring Your Own Booze. Largely outdoors. Tel: 0702 076 969
