Amboseli - loved by many for its elephant herds with Mt Kilimanjaro in the background - is one of Kenya's loveliest national parks. It is also very accessible, just a three-hour drive from Nairobi. The entire ecosystem - encompassing the stunning Chyulu Hills, Amboseli and Tsavo East and West - is much less visited than many other parts of Kenya, but offers crowd-free, adventurous safaris with plenty to see. Situated in and around the Mombasa road, this area makes a natural stop en route to the coast, or even a driving diversion for those looking to leave the tarmac.
